Create Your First Share in Prism Element
Creating a File Share in Prism Element is super simple.
(Note: This assumes you already have a Nutanix Files cluster and Files Console deployed. For info on how to deploy a Files cluster see the Nutanix documentation here.)
1. Start by logging in to Prism Element.
2. Click the Dashboard drop down menu and select "File Server"
3. Click "Launch Files Console"
4. In the Nutanix Files Console, click the "Shares & Exports" tab
5. Click "New Share or Export"
6. Give your new share a "Name" (I will call mine HR), enter an Optional Description, enter an optional Share Path (I will leave this blank and take the default), for Max Size enter your share size (I will enter 1 GiB), select "SMB" under Primary Protocol Access, and click Next.
7. In General setting, select the check box for any setting you want to enable. I will make sure "Enable Compression" is checked, and then click Next.
8. In Protocol Setting and Permissions, you can enable additional settings such as Access Based Enumeration and configure Share Permissions. I will take the defaults and click Next.
9. Finally review the Summary and click "Create"
10. Validate the share was created in the Nutanix Files UI.
You can also use the CLI to validate the share was created.
Log in to your CVM and enter "ncli file-server list-all-fs-shares"
11. Lastly, open a file explorer session and validate you can access the file share.
